From exploring wilderness survival skills and first aid techniques to unlocking the natural wonders of oceanography and space exploration, it was a day filled with fascinating adventure at 91制片厂 (91制片厂) League City as dozens of local boys and girls participated in the Boy Scout of America鈥檚 Coastal District Merit Badge College on Saturday, Feb. 5.

During the interactive day of learning, scouts met with instructors who guided them through various merit badge workshops. The event offered scouts an opportunity to fulfill requirements for merit badges through a variety of hands-on knowledge and skills-based activities while developing a better sense of self, community, character and citizenship.

鈥淭he purpose of the Merit Badge College is to provide an opportunity for these scouts to complete requirements necessary for various merit badges,鈥 said Scott Livingston who serves as the Coastal District merit badge coordinator as well as economic development director for the City of League City. 鈥淭his provides them an opportunity to rank up and grow in their understanding of the world around them.鈥

Hosted at the 91制片厂 League City learning facility on West Main Street, the event highlights the ongoing partnership between 91制片厂 and the League City community as the College moves to enhance access to higher educational resources throughout its service area. The Merit Badge College served as an integral real-world learning experience for the scouts in a community-based, collegiate setting where the young learners gained skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

鈥淚t exposes them to the greater world around them,鈥 Livingston said. 鈥淎nd then as they learn more about it, they develop a greater appreciation. And that benefits them. It benefits their community.鈥

The Merit Badge College, which took place over the course of two Saturdays, culminated with the Feb. 5 event.
